Becoming Color
This exhibition emerges from the transformative space where art meets healing. Working primarily in acrylic with bold, expressive strokes, these paintings arise from a deeply therapeutic dialogue between inner truth and raw expression, one that begins not with thought, but with motion.
Dance is the hidden foundation of this work. The body moves first, breaking down barriers between creator and creation, between the sensual and the static. Each painting carries the memory of this embodied process, where gesture emerges from the whole self rather than the mind alone. The works move fluidly between pure abstraction and symbolic imagery. A bear emerges as a symbol of becoming the deepest, truest self, embodying strength, deep knowing, and nurturing presence, while "Integration" channels the tender essence of a wounded inner child longing to be held.
Each piece serves as both doorway and mirror, reflecting different facets of the journey toward wholeness through movement and mark-making. Through large, gestural strokes that honor the body's intuitive wisdom, these paintings became tangible truth born from a life-season's rituals of release and discovery.
These works were created incrementally as a collective body over the course of roughly five years, from 2020 to 2025. Often working on two, three, or four paintings simultaneously, each piece became part of an ongoing dialogue with transformation itself. This extended timeline mirrors the deeper process at work. These paintings emerged alongside my journey of self-discovery... becoming a mother, leaning into partnership, discovering and nurturing my inner child, and striving towards my truest self.
"Becoming Color" is an invitation to witness the alchemy of personal transformation. Here, in the marriage of paint, movement, and authentic self, we remember that art is not just something that is produced... it is who we have always been.
